This Bowie style knife was likely made in Germany, shipped to Mexico then smuggled to the Tyler Arsenal where it was issued to a Confederate unit. No records are available as to where it was made, just the name "TYLER TEXAS" stamped on lower side of the grip. (The "S" is very indistinct). It is a heavy, solid cast metal 15-1/4" long, with the blade at 9-5/8". No records are available as to who it was issued to or it's owner until Jim Guimerin of San Antonio, Texas purchased it at an auction in 2012. In 2013 it was then loaned to the Bullock Museum in Austin, Texas, where it was displayed in their Texas Confederate Collection from 2013 to 2016.
