Antique Civil War Era Colt Model 1849 Percussion Revolver, #171676, .31 cal., 5'' octagonal barrel with a pin front sight, marked with maker's name and address in two lines on top flat, has hinged loading lever beneath; round 5-shot cylinder has the ''stagecoach holdup'' rolled scene and is marked ''Colts Patent/No. 171676'' in two lines; iron ''open-top'' frame is marked ''Colts/Patent'' in two lines at left side; brass trigger guard is marked with a tiny ''G'' on left bolster and ''V'' on front web, matching backstrap; varnished one-piece walnut grips. Mfg'd ca. 1860, originally with blued barrel, cylinder and trigger, case hardened frame, lever and hammer, and silver-plated grip straps. Condition is very good. Steel surfaces retain no original finish but are smooth, clean gunmetal gray with crisp edges and markings (traces of barrel blue in protected areas); cylinder has safety pins at back and scene is all visible; brass has no original finish but is clean and lightly toned. Grips are sound and smooth and retain perhaps 50% varnish. Action is smooth; bore is shiny with light frosting and sharp rifling; all visible serial numbers match; screw slots are mostly unblemished; barrel to frame fit is tight. Est.: $600-$900. (Antique)
