Civil War Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver, converted to metallic cartridge, #221923, .22 RF cal., 4'' octagonal barrel, with dovetailed blade front (and conversion-ring notched rear) sights marked with the one-line Colt name and address; 6-shot round cylinder carries the ''stagecoach hold-up'' rolled scene; frame is marked ''Colts/Patent'' on left side; brass gripstraps have a ''2'' on left-front bolster of the large rounded triggerguard; varnished one-piece checkered walnut grips. Mfg'd 1862. Condition is good as altered. Barrel has had its loading lever removed, rammer slot plugged and re-configured, with a spring-actuated cartridge ejector rod added to its right side, and shows a brownish coloration. Cylinder had its rear percussion section removed and shows a clear scene with no blue. Frame had a conversion ring with floating firing pin brazed in place and re-case hardened (frame and hammer show mottled case colors); trigger with darkened blue, brass gripstraps with a clean polished patina. Grips are solid with later coarse checkering and a thin later varnish finish. All visible serial numbers match (could not remove wedge). Action is crisp; sleeved bore is bright with sharp rifling. Est.: $250-$450. (Antique)
