Civil War Colt Model 1855 Fullstock Smoothbore Percussion Musket, #2864, .56 cal., 37.5" round barrel has block-blade front sight (doubles as bayonet lug) and 2-leaf rear sight atop 3.125" octagonal breech section; deeply-fluted 5-shot round cylinder; large solid frame is marked "Col. Colt Hartford, CT. U.S.A." on topstrap, "Colt's Patent/Nov. 24th 1857" in arch at left, "2864" at rear tang, has hinged loading lever beneath, right sidehammer, adjustable cylinder pin at rear, separate loop trigger guard with sling loop at integral rear tang; oil-stained walnut forestock has brass nosecap, two clamping bands (lower with sling loop) retaining the tulip-tip ramrod, matching buttstock has curved buttplate and sling loop at belly. Mfg'd ca. 1856-64. Condition is good retaining no original metal finishes, showing overall light-to-moderate oxidation, discoloration and pitting, heavier at cylinder, breech and buttplate. Markings are mostly clear, topstrap has weld repair at breech, rear sight is a replacement. Stocks are sound showing the expected dings and scrapes of age and military use, have been sanded and re-stained. Action is crisp, smoothbore appears clean with light frosting. Quite the rare Colt longarm. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (Antique)
