Civil War Smith & Wesson No. 2 Old Model Army Revolver, with holster, #24976, .32 Long RF cal., 6'' octagonal tip-up barrel marked with maker's name and address on full-length top rib, has top hinge and bottom latch; undecorated round 6-shot cylinder marked ''24976'' between bores at rear; solid frame has three-pin topstrap with spring-actuated cylinder stop, integral spur trigger sheath and gripstraps, two-piece varnished rosewood grips. Backstrap is later engraved ''Lt. Wm. C. Preston 1st S.C. Arty.'' Mfg'd ca. 1861-74, original with likely full-blued finish. Condition is very good retaining no original metal finishes but an overall gunmetal gray patina with light erosion at hinge on both sides. Grips are sound with lower edgewear and most original varnish. Sharp edges and markings; action is smooth; bore is clean showing defined rifling and overall frosting. Russet leather civilian-style flap holster is smooth and fine with secure stitching, excellent shaping and original muzzle plug; flap shows minor age cracking but is sound, has brass knob closure; body has incised belt loop on back, ''Horn/89'' scratched under flap.
