Civil War Spencer 7-Shot Repeating Lever Action Carbine, #45608, .52 RF (Spencer .56-56) cal., 22'' round barrel having integral block-blade front sight and single-leaf adjustable rear sight, top of steel receiver marked ''Spencer Repeating/Rifle Co., Boston, Mass./Pat'd. March 6, 1860'' in three lines, steel furniture including single barrel band, left-side sling bar and ring, sling swivel under buttstock, and steel buttplate; oil-finished walnut forend and buttstock. Mfg'd 1863-65. Originally blued barrel with case hardened receiver, lever, barrel band, and buttplate having a sliding door opening to the magazine tube for cartridge loading. Condition is good showing no original finish but an overall dark aged patina with occasional scattered light erosion; hammer thumb spur broken off. Stocks are sound showing the expected dings and scrapes of hard wartime use. This is a complete and unaltered Civil War Spencer. Action functions; bore shows dark erosion and defined rifling.
