Civil War Starr Breechloading Percussion Carbine, #18757, .54 cal., 21" round barrel with carbine sights, marked "Starr Arms. Co. Yonkers, N.Y." at top and "G.F.M." (inspector Lt. Geo. F. Morrison) at left; receiver marked "Starr's Patent/Sept. 14th, 1858" at breech has sling ring at left, serpentine trigger guard/operating lever; back-action lock is marked "Starr Arms Co./Yonkers, N.Y." behind military hammer. Oil-finished walnut forend has single spring-retained brass band, matching buttstock marked "H.G.S." at top has brass crescent buttplate marked "B". Mfg'd ca. 1862-65. Condition is very good retaining approx. 90% dulling military blue with light discoloration at right of barrel, traces of case colors, else gray gunmetal having sharp edges and markings, age-toned brass. Stocks are sound showing a .75" chip at left buttplate tang, smaller chip at toe, else minor marks, later varnish. Nipple broken. Action is crisp, bright bore shows scattered oxidation, sharp rifling. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)
