Civil War Starr Breechloading Percussion Carbine, NVSN, .54 cal., 21" round barrel with standard carbine sights, marked "Starr Arms Co., Yonkers, N.Y."; receiver marked "Starr's Patent/Sept. 14tg, 1858" at breech, has trigger guard/operating lever, sling ring at left, back-action lockplate marked "B"/Starr Arms Co./Yonkers, N.Y."; 2-pc. halfstock has single brass forend band, brass buttplate. Mfg'd ca. 1862-65. Condition is good retaining traces of original blue, else gray gunmetal showing scattered light etching (bit of pitting at right-side receiver/hammer) with fine edges and markings, brass with age patina. The sound buttstock shows a break repair at wrist, 2.5" hairline cracks either side of comb, 2" smoothed area of missing wood at toe, forend with dings and shallow gouges at bottom of frame. Action is crisp, bore shows scattered light-to-moderate erosion toward muzzle, else sharp rifling. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)
