Civil War Era U.S. Model 1860 Enlisted Cavalry Sword, by Ames, with scabbard. The 35'' blade has one narrow and one wide fuller and is marked at ricasso with inspector's stamps ''U.S., J.F. 1865'', and on the other side, ''Made by Ames Mfg.Co. Chicopee....''. The three-branch guard and pommel are brass, with the pommel having inspector's stamps ''J.F.'' at the top. The grooved wood grip is covered in leather and has a single twisted brass wire wrapping. Scabbard is steel with two hanging rings. OAL is 42''. Condition is good with the blade showing age graying, very minor pitting in a couple of places, and a couple of very minor edge nicks. No blade washer present. Guard and pommel are in good shape but have been cleaned at some point. Grip shows cracks in the wood and losses to the leather covering. Wire grip wrapping is intact and tight. Scabbard has a few large dents, some heavy rust pitting at the drag, and an even dark rust patina overall. No markings evident on the scabbard. Est.: $300-$600.
