Civil War Whitney Navy Percussion Revolver, 2nd Model, 6th Type, #28154, .36 cal., 7.625" octagonal barrel marked "E. Whitney/N. Haven" at top flat, ser. no. and "Z" below, has hinged loading lever marked "Z" that acts as cylinder arbor; round roll-engraved 6-shot cylinder is marked "28154" at rear face; solid frame marked "O" at left turnkey that releases arbor, has separate brass trigger guard, integral gripstraps, 2-pc. oil-finished walnut grips. Mfg'd late 1850s-early ‘60s. Condition is very good retaining approx. 25% thin barrel blue, mainly on lower flats, mixed with scattered light oxidation, else mostly smooth gunmetal gray with light discoloration and toned brass. Sound grips with .125" chips at both heels, occasional nicks, wear at left, light knackering at butt. Edges and markings are sharp, cylinder scene (always light) not visible. Action is crisp, bore is clean with light erosion toward muzzle and fine rifling. Est.: $700-$1,000. (Antique)
