'US PROPERTY" marked vintage single action semi-automatic compact pistol chambered in .32 ACP, manufactured circa 1942. Between 1941 and 1945, the U.S. government purchased roughly 17,330 pistols in .32 ACP. The Office of Strategic Services (OSS)—the precursor to the CIA issued these pistols for operatives working behind enemy lines and the U.S. Army and Army Air Corps issued the Model 1903 as an official sidearm to high-ranking General Officers (nicknamed the "General Officer's Pistol"). Features a blued finish, ( late World War II models transitioned to a matte, duller Parkerized finish to save costs, the highly sought-after, early U.S.-contract models that feature a rich blued finish are highly sought-after). 3 3/4" barrel, low-profile round blade front sight, dovetailed rear sight with square notch, two-line address/patent marking on the left side of the slide with 'Rampant Colt' on the rear, smooth trigger, concealed hammer, thumb safety/slide catch on the left side of the frame, grip safety, heel magazine release, factory 8 round blued magazine marked "CAL.32 COLT" on the floorplate, steel frame and two-piece checkered wood grips with silver toned Rampant Colt medallions. Bore is excellent/bright with strong rifling. Pistol retains approximately 60% of its original blued finish with areas of handling/holster wear, mainly on top of the slide and grip straps. Markings are sharp. Grips are very good with a couple of minor dings, checkering is very good.
