‘Black Army’ Late WWI era U.S. Army contract single action semi-automatic service pistol chambered in .45 Auto, manufactured in Hartford, CT circa 1918. Features a blued finish, 5" barrel, low profile round blade front sight, dovetailed rear sight with “u” notch, smooth trigger, knurled wide hammer spur, thumb safety on the left side of the frame, grip safety, push button magazine release, 7 round ‘key hole’ magazine with lanyard loop, steel frame, smooth mainspring housing with lanyard loop and double diamond checkered walnut grips. Markings: Slide - "PATENTED APR.20,1897. SEPT.9,1902/DEC.19,1905. FEB.14,1911. AUG.19,1913", [Rampant Colt], "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.", "G", "H" & "MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY". Frame - [Eagle Head]/"S8", "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No 557442", “40”, “3”, “H” & “G”. Barrel - "HP" & "E/N". Pistol retains approximately 10% of its original finish with strong bluing retained in the protected areas and the balance of the metal surfaces displaying a mottled aged grey/brown patina with a small amount of scattered surface rust. The action is sound, the bore shows strong rifling with some scattered dark rust forward of the chamber, the markings are clear and the wood grips are good with wear.
