Desirable & early U.S. military contract single action percussion revolver manufactured circa 1855. The Third Model Dragoon was the final design of the Dragoon series and was the end of the Colt "four pounder" revolver era. This revolver features a 7 1/2" part octagon barrel, brass blade front sight, ‘v’ notch rear sight cut into the tip of the hammer, loading lever with vertical style latch, non-fluted six-shot cylinder with rectangular stops & roll stamped engraved scene, smooth thin trigger, roller bearing hammer with knurled spur, brass backstrap & round trigger guard, and one-piece smooth walnut grip. The serial number 14218 is found on the barrel lug, frame, triggerguard, backstrap, cylinder & loading lever, "421" on cylinder base pin,"16468" on wedge. The barrel is stamped "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY" and the frame reads "COLTS/PATENT". The left side of the triggerguard is stamped with an “A”. Revolver exhibits a mottled grey/brown patina showing scattered light pits throughout, giving an overall slightly rough texture. The action is in fair working order, heavy cocking and a very light let off. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Grip is good condition, many small dents, slight shrinkage.
