Presentation U. S. Marine Corps 230th anniversary semi auto .45 ACP caliber pistol. High polish mirror bright blued finish, medallion ivory grips, "U.S. Marine Corps 1775 - 2005" in gold ribbon on the left side of the slide below "230th Anniversary", and [Marine Corps emblem] next to "Semper Fidelis" on the right side of the slide. Left grip carved and inked USMC. Pistol has early 1911 styling including flat mainspring housing (inscribed to Mr. Greene) and extended trigger. New and unused in box with an extra set of checkered wood grips Provenance: This pistol was presented to Capt. Robert "Bob" Greene by the President of Colt Firearms, General Keyes, who had the pistol especially made for his friend. The "0" prefix and “R. J. Greene / Capt. USMC” inscription were also executed by order of General Keyes. History: General William M. Keyes received the Navy Cross and Silver Star for valor in service during Vietnam and he successfully led the assault on the Kuwaiti border during Desert Storm. He retired a 3 star Lt General before assuming the presidency of Colt Pt. F.A. Robert J. Greene also served gallantly in Vietnam, receiving numerous medals, awards and citations. He was combat injured and served in the U.S.M.C. before retiring on 100% service related disability. Bob worked with Little John's Auctions from late 1960's to 1990's and in late 1990's he participated with the Gangel family in the creation of Auction Productions in Dewey-Humbolt, Arizona. Bob sold out to Reata Pass Auctions 13 years ago when Gabrielle Gangel took over his location and began Reata Pass Auctions. Mr. Greene was instrumental in the incorporation of Dewey-Humbolt and was elected its first mayor. He is now retired and living in Costa Rica where he cannot possess a handgun. Includes a letter documenting the pistols history written by Mr. Greene and a Colt Factory Letter with supporting details (currently inbound).
