Colt Factory Produced Cartridge Pocket Revolver, #730, .38 RF cal., 4.5'' octagonal barrel with the one-line ''Address Col. Saml. Colt New-York U.S. America'' marking, left frame with two-line 1871-72 patent dates, cylinder with ''Stagecoach Hold Up'' scene and ''Colt's Patent/730'' markings, nickel-plated brass grip straps with one-piece varnished walnut grips. Originally with full nickel-plated finish. All visible serial numbers match including loading gate. As evidenced by its serial number, this revolver was factory produced as a cartridge gun, and not converted from percussion (but still utilizing leftover percussion parts). Condition is good to very good, retaining much nickel finish (hard to discern due to polished metal surfaces); the barrel has been filed (perhaps to remove pitting), poorly done at breech area, nearly obliterating the barrel address, and has had a large blade dovetailed copper front sight installed. Cylinder scene is partially visible; serial number is clear. Grip straps retain most original nickel and the wooden grips are fine, having a smooth and unblemished finish. Action is crisp; bore appears clean. Est.: $650-$950. (Antique)
