British Royal Air Force contract single action semi-automatic service pistol originally chambered in .455 Webley Self-Loading but has been subsequently been fitted with a .45 ACP barrel. Manufactured in Hartford, CT circa 1919. Features a blued refinish, 5" barrel, low profile round blade front sight, dovetailed rear sight with “u” notch, smooth trigger, knurled wide hammer spur, thumb safety on the left side of the frame, grip safety, push button magazine release, 7 round .455 magazine with lanyard loop, steel frame with custom stippling on the frontstrap, stippled mainspring housing with lanyard loop and double diamond checkered walnut grips. Markings: Slide - "PATENTED APR.20,1897. SEPT.9,1902/DEC.19,1905. FEB.14,1911. AUG.19,1913", "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.", [Rampant Colt], “COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE 455”, [crossed flags], [crown]/”BNP”, “55” & “E” stamped twice. Frame – “R.A.F.”, [broad arrow]/[crossed flags], [crown]/”G2”/”A” Inspectors mark, “VP” inside a triangle, “2”, “8”, “E”, “GOVERNMENT MODEL/W101230”, [crown]/”BNP”, & a Birmingham crossed scepters stamp appering to be either “F/B/2” or “P/B/2”. Barrel - "HS", “P” & various London nitro proof marks. & Magazine – “CAL.455” & “ELEY”. Pistol retains approximately 85% of its blued refinish showing edge wear, scattered handling marks, slide wear on the moving parts and the mainspring housing in-the-white. The action is sound, the bore is pristine, the markings are clear and the wood grips are fair to good with wear. Condition is near NRA Good. ***C&R Firearm***
