Colt Model 1851 Navy Fourth Model Single Action Percussion Revolver, #134011, .36 cal., 7.5" octagon barrel with brass bead front and fixed rear sights, blue and case hardened finish with brass grip straps, smooth one-piece walnut grips, large brass trigger guard and later capping groove on right side of receiver. Mfg'd 1863. Revolver is in good overall condition with an even dark brown patina showing oxidation and exposure. Barrel shows sharps edges with a brass bead replacement front sight, later New York barrel address, and some over cleaning on top of barrel. Loading lever assembly and barrel lug shows light to moderate pinprick pitting, with a faint and partially obliterated Colt's Patent marking on left side of frame. Screw heads are good and there are numerous Colt acceptance marks. Cylinder retains 10%-15% of the naval battle scene with the Colt patent line and serial number no longer visible. Cylinder has intermittent light pitting and surface rust around the diameter drifting to dark patina, with all the safety pins hammered down. All of the nipples are in good condition. Gun has all matching visible serial numbers with the exception of the cylinder. Arbor and wedge are also matching. Brass grip straps have been cleaned and show a pleasing taffy patina, with no silver plate remaining. Wood grips are very good with considerable original finish, edgewear at the bases, and a small flea bite chip at the toe of the right grip. Grips are also matching with the number in the grip channel. Action works well and is in time; bore is fair with roughness, scattered pitting, and defined rifling. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)
