Colt Model 1860 Army Single Action Percussion Revolver, #74216, .44 cal., 8" barrel with German silver blade front and fixed rear sights, unfluted 6-shot cylinder, blue and case hardened finish with an iron rear and brass front straps, one-piece smooth walnut grips. Mfg'd 1862. Revolver is in good overall condition having gone to a mottled silver/gray patina with sharp markings. Barrel shows cleaning with small areas of light surface rust and erosion with a crisp barrel address. Frame is silvered old case coloring with numerous Colt and military acceptance marks and a sharp "COLTS PATENT" on the left side. Gun is cut for stock with a three-screw frame and capping groove on the right side. Cylinder is an even gray patina retaining approx. 80%-85% of the naval scene, with a partially legible engagement date and small areas of light surface rust. Safety pins are hammered flat while the nipples are intact and strong. Rear grip strap is iron and the front strap and trigger guard are brass. Front strap and trigger guard have been cleaned. All visible matching serial numbers, except for the wedge, which is an unnumbered period replacement. Grips are very good with a sharp cartouche on the left grip and a somewhat fainter cartouche on the right side. Grips are marked with a matching serial number in the grip channel. There is knackering and hammering marks at the base. Action is crisp and the timing is good; bore is fair with roughness, light intermittent pitting, and strong rifling. This is a nice Civil War era Army that shows honest wear with considerable scene remaining. Est.: $2,000-$2,500. (Antique)
