Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army Cartridge Revolver, #311420, .44 S&W Russian CF cal., 7.5'' round barrel marked ''Colt's Pt. F. A. Mfg. Co. Hartford, CT U.S.A.'' in one line, and ''44 Russian Ctg.'' to left side near juncture with frame, left frame with two-line 1871-75 patent dates and circled Rampant Colt logo, originally blued and case hardened finishes, steel grip straps with black two-piece checkered hard rubber grips having the Rampant Colt logo within an oval at top. All visible matching serial numbers; loading gate correctly marked ''1440''. Mfg'd late 1909-early 1910. Condition is excellent, probably unfired, the barrel retaining 95% deep glossy blue (slight thinning to left side at muzzle and at caliber marking) and blue in the bore, the cylinder retaining 90% blue with deep original blue in the flutes and in the cylinder bores, the grip straps with 80% deep blue (thinning to backstrap). Frame and hammer retain pleasing evenly mottled case colors; trigger and most screws show brilliant fire blue and unmarred screw slots. Grips are unworn with sharp checkering, and fit well. Action is crisp and sure, bore is shiny with very good rifling. This exemplary Single Action, in its desirable large caliber, was shipped to Supplee Hardware Co., 503 Market Street, Phila., PA, on January 27, 1910 in a shipment of just one gun. Included is a Colt factory letter detailing all the above features; additionally pictured on page 155 of A Study of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver by Graham, Kopec and Moore.
