This is a engraved 1st generation Colt Single-Action Army revolver chambered in .38 Special. Nickel finish, possibly a period refinish when it was engraved. Serial number dates it to 1938. Features a 5 1/2' barrel, correct one-line Hartford address on top of barrel, matching serial numbers on the frame, triggerguard and backstrap. TG & Backstrap SN's are under the left grip panel. One piece genuine ivory grip with Mexican eagle/snake craved in right panel and a Mexican 2 peso gold coin (Issued by Banco de México from 1919-1948) inletted in the right panel above the eagle. The cylinder is 2nd generation with the 'Rampant Colt" stamped on the rear face of the cylinder. Revolver has level C engraving, beautiful distinct foliate scrolling and beaded backgrounds as well as lined borders, unsigned. There is no caliber marking on the left barrel, no assembly number on the loading gate and no patent dates on the left frame, most likely done during the engraving process. The bore is excellent/bright, the action is smooth with tight lock-up, engraving is crisp, the nickel finish is about 97% with some minor scratches and some very light scattered patina and the ivory grips have a nice cream patina with some fine grain lines ("Schreger lines" or bark lines), slight shrinkage. Comes in a nice maroon felt lined, form fitted wooden presentation box with brass plaque in the interior reading "Colt Single Action Army Revolver".
NRA Condition-Very Good+. C&R Firearm.
