Its mate, S/N 56304 was matching in all features and both wereshipped on the same date to B. Kittredge and Co., Cincinnati, Ohio. SAA #56304 was sold recently at auction for $80,000 on the hammer and the right grip was incised carved and inked “Presented to/Frank Stewart/by hisfriend/W. S. Moore”. This subject revolver (#56305) has long been in the hands of a ranching family who moved to the San Fernando Valley and obtained it from Tom Talle of Varmejo Park, New Mexico before 1930.Accompanying the gun is an old typewritten transcript letter alleging history as being taken from the body of a law officer killed by “Billy the Kid”. The letter also states the gun was given to Nick Chaffin an “oldTexas Ranger” and then to Clarence Woody from whom the gun was obtained by our consignor’s relations. The right grip bears beautifully incised carved and inked initials “F” with intertwined “S” presumed to be Frank Stewart
