Vintage U.S. military large frame double action service revolver chambered in .45 Colt, manufactured circa 1911. The model 1909 was an interim solution to the shortage of side arms created by the trials for the 1911. All but 350 of the 19,503 contracted revolvers were sent to the Manila Ordnance Depot in the Philippine Islands. Features a blued finish, 5 1/2" barrel, blade front sight, "u" notched rear sight, smooth trigger, knurled hammer spur, fluted swing out six-shot cylinder, non-shrouded ejector rod, lanyard loop on the butt, and two-piece smooth walnut grips. All observed serial numbers are matching. Military marks: Barrel - "UNITED STATES PROPERTY", "P" & "R.A.C." Frame - "R.A.C.", "FB" , "U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1909" & "No/48/793". Grip Panels - "R.A.C." and Cylinder - "R.A.C." Revolver retains approximately 80% of it's original blued finish showing light holster wear, tracking on the cylinder and small scattered spots of pin prick pitting on the fore strap. There is a very faint "AR" someone has scratched on the left frame. Action is crisp with solid lock-up, the bore is good with strong rifling, but has some areas of light pitting., markings are clear and the wood grips are very good+. NRA Condition-Good to Very Good.
