Colt U.S. SAA revolver, .45 caliber, 7.5” barrel, old re-finish , replaced wood grips, S/N 132604, backstrap inscribed “ ’Cheyenne’ Bill” and the top of the backstrap displays an “RR” brand; crisp action, good markings,very good bore and grips. An interesting gun that has had some past restoration. Specific provenance concerning Cheyenne Bill or the RR brand does not accompany this lot however a copy of a biographical note fromthe internet mentions the following: Harold William McKechnie was born on August 22, 1900 at Sioux Ste., Marie, Ontario, Canada. He went to Los Angeles in 1925 where he found work as a stuntman. One of his early jobswas on the original Beau Geste (movie) in 1926. Being handsome and athletic, Harry was soon noticed by Morris R. Schlank, who starred him, billed as Cheyenne Bill, in seven of his Anchor Production Co. westerns(including “Rainbow Range” which was produced in 1928).
