The micarta handle has been nicely contoured for a very comfortable hold. The handle has been scrimshawed to show a dragon and a falcon head. Accompanied by hand stitched leather sheath. Signed and dated 90. 17" overall with a 10 1/2" blade. Offered for your consideration is a very unique and unusual custom fighting knife from the late California maker John Schulps. Schulps was from Orland, California and passed away in 2010 after operating Schulps' Pottery & Knives for 40 years. Schulps was a Master Potter and was also a talented knifemaker and all-around highly skilled craftsman. Articles on his passing mentioned that he played professional football for the Vikings and Giants in the 1960's, in addition to be a long-time high school and youth league coach. His knives have a very distinctive look and are easily recognizable. His knives were fairly pricey, although given the amount of work that went into them they were a relative bargain. Although he made standard style hunting and fighting knives as well, many of his designs had a unique fantasy style to them...very similar to Gil Hibben's style. He was also a talented scrimshawer and many of his larger knives showcase his work.
