Japanese Wakizashi, by Custom Knife Maker Jim Hrisoulas. A nice hand-forged modern Japanese style sword with a shobu-zukuri shape, and O-kissaki. Notare or wavy style hamon temperline with visible grain structure to the steel, showing layers of folded metal. Wonderful tight forging, a well-made blade. Polished surface shows off the bright temper line and distinctive parting line denoting the tip or point, with brass habaki collar. Tang is signed ''Made for John Klein'' with an ''8R'' inside a heart stamp; the other side of the tang is signed ''Jim Hrisoulas 02/2010''. Purportedly 1 of 125, and made of 1070 and L6 damascus steel. Blade is housed in a custom made set of mounts also by Jim Hrisoulas. Handle is covered with black rayskin and wrapped with a black and gold cloth cord in a traditional Japanese manor. The menuki are cast gold-colored flowers. Handle fittings are black coated metal, the upper one (kashira) with a flower design on top. The saya scabbard is wood covered with black and gold lacquered leather that has a crackled finish overall. This is an Aikuchi style mount, not designed for a tsuba or handguard. Jim Hrisoulas was voted one of the top ten most influential bladesmiths of the past 50 years. Est.: $800-$1,500.
