This is a cased Elgin Gold Hunter pocket watch that belonged to Sheriff David Lawrence Anderson, who rode with Billy the kid in the 1880's. He was then known as Billy Wilson. For more information on him, see his Colt Bisley revolver in this auction. Grade 82, 15 jewel lever-set size 18s, serial number 2234483, manufactured 1887. In good working condition. The gold-filled plated case is decorated with intricate relief engravings, geometric scrollwork and floral motifs. The intertwined initials "DLA" are engraved on the cover. The watch fob chain with attached t-bar and hanging fob with elaborate detailing. Curb links and dog clip. The large Fob is badge shaped with floral wreath border topped with spread-winged eagle holding two arrows, the round center is mother of Pearl with gold crescent with star in the center, the star has an inletted diamond in the center. (diamond has been tested) The reverse is engraved in block letters, "Sheriff David L. Anderson Sanderson Texas". A true piece of Old West history. Overall very good condition with some minor scratches.
