DESIRABLE COLLECTOR CONDITION BROWNING POINTER
GRADE LONG TANG ROUND KNOB FIELD GUN WITH CASE. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 17861S3. Bbls. 26 3/8", marked for "IC"& "Mod", marked w/ St. Louis & Montreal addresses along w/ "MADE IN BELGIUM"on left side of top bbl. w/ narrow ventilated rib. Right side marked w/ steel, chamber & patent info. Coin finished superposed action w/ gold plated single selective trigger engraved in usual "Pointer" style w/ near full coverage nicely cut medium scroll surrounding scenes of dogs retrieving game; pointer retrieving a duck in marsh on left side w/ another pointer retrieving a pheasant in open woodlands on right. Both scenes are signed by noted Browning engraver A. Marechal. He most likely did the scroll as well as the scenes, both of which are very nicely detailed & cleanly cut. Bottom of action depicts a pair of quail & there is a pair of pheasant on trigger guard bow, one nestled in grass, the other taking wing. No initials were found on these scenes. Long tang rnd. knob buttstock of very nicely crotch figured American walnut measures 14 7/8" over brown Browning white line pad. Full forend matches well. DAH: 2 1/2". DAC: 1 1/2"-. Cast about 1/2" off. WEIGHT: 7 lbs. 12 oz. Chokes appear unaltered. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: tan Hartmann case lined in faux fur contains a key. CONDITION: extra fine, appears close to "as new" w/ very faint firing halos on breech face, beautiful bores & a few scattered very light marks in all finishes, very little crazing of stock finish. Checkering is still light in color. Mechanically crisp. Case has a few marks on exterior. Interior has compressions & soiling. With its special stock dimensions this gun was no doubt custom ordered. Pointer grades always seem to be a little bit special. (20-376/MGM116). CURIO. $4,000-6,000.
