DESIRABLE WWI GERMAN ERFURT BOLT ACTION MILITARY

RIFLE WITH MATCHING NUMBERS. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 9944m. Bbl. 23 3/4". All visible numbers match. Interesting rifle issued to German troops during WWI in place of the less than successful Model 98 carbine. Rifle, although dated 1916, was mfg. w/ out grasping grooves in the stock which were added in 1915. Sm. ring type receiver marked on left rail in gothic “KAR. 98”. Receiver ring marked on top w/ imperial crown, “ERFURT” & “1916” marked on right side w/ imperial German proofs. Markings partially enhanced w/ white. Turned down bolt handle w/ checkered knob. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Inverted V front sight w/ protective ears. Bayonet bar & stacking bar are present. Provision for side sling. European walnut stock set. CONDITION: original finish stock set has moderate wear, dents, scratches & staining throughout. Buttstock has notable damage on right side, likely from artillery fragment, leaving a sm. amount of wood missing. Several sm. scratches on right side in area of lower band. Metal has traces of blue turning overall gray & patina w/ areas of fine oxidation. Rear sight slide release button has had finish removed. Good bore w/lightly worn lands. (22-133/RW). CURIO. $500-800.
