1) This document measures 13" x 8" & is on blue lined paper. The first few lines of this document read, “Headquarters Engineer Dept at Chattanooga Tenn Aug 3. 1863” & “Special Orders No. 56”. The document is a lengthy requisition form for hundreds of items including 50 axes, 50 spades, 15 picks, chisels, spoke shaves, awls & a myriad of other tools. The requisition further asks for ambulances, mules, chains, envelopes, a set of company books, a box of pens, various cooking utensils, several blacksmith tools & many other items needed for the everyday operation of a military unit tasked w/ the duties of an engineer. The document goes on to say “Company officers are expected to enforce discipline as prescribed by Army Regulations.” & “They will also furnish this office with the morning reports daily at or before 8 o’clock.”. The document is signed “By Command of Genl Bragg S.W. Presstman Capt & Chief Engineer”.
2) This document measures 13" x 8" & is on blue lined paper. The document is titled, “List of Noncommissioned Officers Artisans + Laborers Belonging to A Co of Engineer Troops Attached to Maj Gen Stewarts Division Army Tenn”. The document goes on to list approx. 102 individuals w/ their rank or occupation, the company to which they were assigned as well as the regiment. Historic Note: This is a possibly the only known roster for a Confederate Engineer unit. A godsend to a researcher of Confederate Engineers.
3) This document measures 9 3/4" x 7 3/4" & is on lined white paper. The document is from, “H’d Qrs Batt Engr Troops Nov 20 1863”. The document is titled, “Circular”. The document speaks of clothing regulations as prescribed by the Quartermaster General. It speaks of the clothing allowance per year & notes that overcoats should last 3 years. The document is signed, “S.W. Presstman Capt Comdg Batt Eng Troops”.
4) This document measures 5 1/2" x 7 3/4" & is on white lined paper. The document is from, “H’d Qurs Batt Engr Troops Nov 20 1863”. The document is titled, “Circular”. The document speaks of the quarterly accounting for public property in the company’s possession. The document is signed, “S.W. Presstman Capt Comdg Batt Eng Troops”.
5) This document measures 10" x 8" & is on blue lined paper. The document is from, “Head Quarters Batl. Eng Troops at Dalton Geo Decb 13. 1863”. The document is titled, “Circular” & speaks of general orders from the Adjutant & Inspector General’s office calling attention to the problem of getting timely, quarterly returns of arms & accoutrements on hand. Reports must be made no later than 20 days after the termination of the quarter. Document is signed, “S.W. Presstman”.
6) This document measures 9 3/4" x 8" & is on white lined paper. The document is from, “Head Quarters Batl Eng Troops Dalton Geo Decb 13. 1863.”. The document is addressed, “Captain” & instructs Captain Gloster to move the pontoon bridge from Resaca to Ostenola to be guarded & prepared for reconstruction on the Etowah river near the railroad bridge. Document is signed. “S.W. Presstman Maj Comdg Eng Troops”.
7) This document measures 13" x 8" & is on faded blue paper. The document is from, “Head Quarters Battalion Eng Troops at Dalton Geo Decb 17. 1863.”. The document is titled, “Circular” & reinforces general orders from Richmond requesting lists of any substitutes for conscripted soldiers under their command. It also requests information on substitutes that have been killed or discharged & requests information on deserters. Document is signed, “S.W. Presstman Maj Comdg Engr Troops”.
8) This document measures 10" x 8" & is on blue lined paper. The document is from, “Head Quarters Batl. Eng Troops at Dalton Geo Jany 19. 1863.”. The document is addressed, “Captain” & discussed the acceptance of volunteers & recruits. It also asks for a report of the mules, wagons, etc. of your command. Document is signed, “Yours Respt R.P. Rowley Capt Comdg Eng Troops”. CONDITION: paper is generally in solid condition. There are no notable tears. Writing is generally clear & in a good hand. Letters can easily be read. (02-15341-1/BF). $1,400-2,200.
