DWM 1902 Luger Carbine 9mm SN: 22000
Very desirable 1902 Luger carbine. These carbines were DWM's attempt to a produce a lightweight rifle substitute to compete against the Mauser Broomhandle carbines. There were a total of 2,500 Luger carbines produced in two serial number blocks with this specific pistol being in the second block of which only 1,100 total were made. The unique features of these pistols are: a 11 3/4 inch barrel, short forend which housed a small spring accelerator mechanism, early long frame, grip safety, dished toggles, and recessed/flat breech bolt. These were also fitted with the early style three position rear sight (adjustable from 100-300 meters) mounted on top of the barrel in front of the receiver and a bead front sight mounted on a ramp on top of the barrel. The top of the chamber is blank, and the front toggle has the DWM logo for "Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken". The full serial number (2200) is correctly marked on the frame extension and the underside of the barrel, with the last two (or three) digits of the serial number are marked on the takedown lever. The pistol stock is completely original and is fitted with a black horn buttplate, lower sling swivel, and an original matching numbered (00) attaching iron. The magazine has a nickel plated body with the correct unnumbered, wood plug. This fine pistol is complete with a cleaning rod, two take-down tools, housed in a custom maroon felt lined luggage style case. The case has eight compartments that hold the carbine, the detachable buttstock, magazine, wood block that holds 16 rounds. Bore is bright with strong rifling, some scattered areas of very light pitting, wood is sound, with the checkering worn smooth on the pistol, stock has good checkering with numerous minor scratches/dings, horn butt plate has a small chip on the top left. Action is smooth/tight. Blue finish is about 50% with handling/edge wear, minor scratches. NRA Condition-Good. C&R Firearm.
