DWM 1906 1st ISSUE NAVY SEMI-AUTO PISTOL.

Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 8574a. Bbl. 6" w/ British proofs & full S#. Crown proofs, crown M & crown BNP on bbl. plus left side of receiver. “V5/07” (unknown mark believed to be a post WWI police, or possibly militia unit mark) above chamber. Similar marks are known on other P.04 & P.08 pistols. WW/3965 (Werft zu Wilhelmshaven, pistol 3965) on backstrap between grip safety & stock lug. DWM scroll on center toggle link. Two position Navy rear sight on rear toggle link. British crown BNP proofs on toggle assembly & front of frame. Reworked “GESICHERT” in upper position; safe w/ lever in lower position. Grip safety & numbered parts on gun are matching; firing pin, hold open latch, sear & replacement checkered walnut grips are unnumbered. This pistol is featured on p. 1159 of The Borchardt & Luger Automatic Pistols by Joachim Gortz & Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess. MAGS: fair 8 rd. tin plated w/ wood base numbered 2828 perpendicular to concentric circled dimples. Magazine has pitting on body & very good wood base. CONDITION: good to very good arsenal reblue (no strawed parts) over scattered pitting that is more severe at back of upper frame & rear sight to include back of toggle. Pitting on safety lever having patina appearance. Very good appearing grips w/ nice wood grain on left; darker right w/ light wear. Bore is worn w/ light pitting. Mechanics are generally good but grip safety sticks due to grips & interior metal rubbing; proper functioning return spring. Broken spring on hold open latch; doesn't return to position. Interior of frame has distinct brown tone throughout. PROVENANCE: formally in collection of Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess. (22-353/NW). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
