DWM Model 1906 Navy 1st Issue Rework Luger with Holster, Two Magazines, Unit Marked, #4279a, 9mm, 6" barrel, rust blue finish, straw colored small parts, checkered walnut grips, blade front and two-position adjustable rear sight with V-notch, stock lug, and grip safety. Includes two (2) nickel plated magazines with concentric circle wood bases. Both are numbered "4279" no suffix and have "(crown)/M" Navy proofs; one base is lighter in color and the font varies slightly. The pistols toggle is marked "DWM". Imperial Navy proof mark and two "(crown)/M" acceptance marks are visible on the left side of the receiver. Left side of barrel with Imperial Navy "(crown)" proof mark; bottom with "(crown)/M". Backstrap is unit marked "W.W./908" for the Wilhelmshaven naval dockyard; marks were applied with a pantograph. There are visible remnants of "Gesichert" in the lower safety position; now clearly marked in the upper position. All visible numbers are matching, including both grips; firing pin and thumb safety are not numbered. Includes a period, unmarked black leather holster and cleaning rod. The cleaning rod appears to be originally for an artillery luger and was broken, leaving only a few threads. Pistol is in fine condition, retaining approx. 90% blue; over 90% straw colors. Wear to the high points and edges accounts for most of the finish loss. Factory lettering and proof marks are clear. Grips show typical signs of age and light handling wear, with a shallow horizontal indentation near the top of the left grip. Action and hold open function properly. Bore is bright throughout with well-defined rifling. Both magazines show moderate age and wear. Holster rates fair, with a large repaired/replacement section in the grip area. The remainder of the front of the holster and flap shows considerable cracking; backside with two 4" long scratches. Stitching is tight. Est.: $4,000-$6,000. (C&R/PPT)
