Desirable original period inscribed and engraved Henry rifle, .44RF caliber, 24” octagon barrel, brass frame, wood butt stock, S/N 11542. Inscription on right side of frame states “To Henry E. Darby/From hisFriends/Cincinnati Ohio/May 6, 1867” and is trimmed in scroll engraving; left side of frame shows a spread American Eagle at the center of the frame, also trimmed with scroll engraving. The barrel shows a grey patinawith some original muted blue in protected areas; minor spots of erosion and a couple old nicks on the right side at mid-barrel; crisp action, good bore and beautiful taffy colored patina to brass frame and butt plate. The wood stock is overall good to very good with the classic Henry “bump” just below the left side attached sling swivel. Accompanying this Henry are two files with numerous color photos of the rifle andinformation on the production details of the Henry rifle plus copies of National Archives documents related to Pvt.
