BLOCK PISTOL.
Cal. 22 RF Long. S# 1284. Bbl. 10" part octagon, part round having dovetailed sights of brass blade front and elevator adjustable Buckhorn rear. Mfg.1892-1898 with "E. REMINGTON & SONS-ILLION-N-Y-" on top of round portion of barrel; references indicate just over 100 produced. Consignor states from pre 1888 bankruptcy sale with 1891 Army frame. References state target models with 4 digit serial numbers made from refurbished military frames. Left front of frame has Remington marking with last patent date of 1873 (month not readable). Most known examples of this model have checkered stock sets with longer schnable tipped forends. Round portion of barrels is usually thinner with pronounced taper. This barrel's round section is .817" at octagon juncture and .770" at muzzle; octagon portion is .868" at receiver and .838" at round juncture. Nickel plated with blued sights and rolling block; left side extractor. "1" on bottom of barrel under forend plus "1284" on left side of both tangs under unnumbered grip that is retained by tang to tang through bolt rather than two wood screws. Very scarce variation that is usually blued with case hardened frame. CONDITION: good general appearance with scattered finish loss being more pronounced on right side of frame along with cleaned pitting in this area. Hand worn stock set with minimal handling marks. Good blued finish on sights (especially rear) plus brown patina tone to rolling block. Light target style trigger pull. Poor darkened bore with wear and pitting. (01-22160/NW). ANTIQUE. $600-900.
