HUNGARY CONVERTED TO PERCUSSION. Cal. 55. NSN. The 9 3/4" swamped bbl. has octagonal rear section w/ filings making a transition to rnd. & retaining top flat as rib. Top flat is engraved "Wentzl Bohm in Eger" (circa 1740). Lock w/ arched & rounded plate has been converted to percussion w/ addition of a serpentine hammer. Lockplate is deeply relief engraved w/ scenes of horseman wielding sabers. Stock of European walnut extends to muzzle w/ brass cap & has raised scroll carvings at rear of bbl. tang & behind thimble. There are raised platforms around lock & sideplates. Stock is brass mounted w/ relief cast fancy sideplate, trigger guard, crestplate, & distinctive eagle head gripcap. These mounts show remnants of gilding. Wooden ramrod w/ horn tip mounts through faceted & beaded pipe & matching thimble. CONDITION: good, iron parts cleaned to silver gray w/ scattered splotches of dark oxidation & pits. Stock is good, sound & shows considerable wear & some marks. Brass is quite good w/ traces of gilding remaining. Rusted bore, lock will not cock. (01-20883/MGM). ANTIQUE. $500-1,000.
