EARLY 1800S STRAIGHT RAZOR BELONGING TO GENERAL

GEBHARD BLUCHER OF PRUSSIA. This razor is of classic, early 19th century style, form & construction. Stampings at the base of the blade include a crowned, “GR” & a British maker’s mark that has become partially illegible due to wear & light pitting. The certifiably antique ivory handle is held together w/ 2 brass pins. 1 Side is engraved w/ a fine rendition of a crowned Prussian eagle holding an orb & scepter w/ an “R” on its chest. The handle is further engraved, “Genl. Blucher”. Prussian General Gebhard Leberecht Blucher, 1742-1819 was a famous Prussian General & is best known for leading his army against Napoleon I at the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig during 1813 & at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Blucher visited England in 1814 & 1816 likely obtaining this fine razor during one of those visits. The razor is housed in a dark red colored paperboard box marked, “WARRANTED HOLLOW GROUND RAZOR”. A rare opportunity to acquire a personal item associated w/ a famous Napoleonic era general. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: information about General Blucher & his exploits along w/ information about the razor & a letter from the National Army Museum in London attesting to the age of the razor. CONDITION: the razor is undamaged but shows its age. The engraving is clear, crisp & easily read. (02-15662/BF). $500-800.
