EARLY AMERICAN COMMITTEE OF SAFETY(?) MUSKET.

Cal. 77. NSN. This gun appears to be made using parts salvaged from a long land pattern brown bess musket w/ 43 1/2" 75 cal. bbl. & "GR" marked early style lock. Full length cherry wood stock is brass mounted w/ trigger guard being salvaged from a sea service pistol. Bbl. tang retained by screw through trigger guard finial. Stock is of early style w/ Roman nose comb & palm swell at thimble. It is pinned to bbl. Sling loops & steel ramrod are present. CONDITION: fair to good as restored. Bbl. & lock w/ old brown patina. Brass w/ some artificial aging after cleaning. Stock shows major repair through broken wrist w/ some scattered epoxy in fill. Front 25" of stock & ramrod pipes are restoration. Lock shows considerable work. Frizzen & feather spring probable replacements w/ old parts. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor. (01-20488/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
