MADE 1913. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 41450. Bbl. 5". This classic early Colt 1911 pistol, made for the Navy, has many of the early features desired by collectors. Standard configuration, whose left slide was marked with a 2-line address, referencing Colt's patent dates, suffixed by the name of the company, along with its address in Hartford, CT. Behind the serrations is the encircled Rampant Colt logo. On the left side of the forward frame is "UNITED STATES PROPERTY"; an intertwined "WGP" inspection logo is just above the mag. release button. The right side of the slide is marked "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. NAVY", the frame is marked "No 41450". Although this pistol has the later squared rear sight with a U-notch, it still has the early stub hammer with fine checkering and a narrow border. Small parts are brightly polished and heat-blued. Fitted with checkered walnut panels with prominent diamonds and an early 2-tone mag. (no keyhole) with lanyard loop on base. Disassembly shows a small "H" on the frame, forward of the disconnector, repeated on the back of the slide, just above the firing pin retainer. Replacement bbl. is completely unmarked. MAGS: 1 7-rd. CONDITION: good original condition, about 75% blue, with moderate/heavy wear as appropriate for a service pistol that has seen significant use, especially with respect to the grip straps; the front strap is essentially gray. Comparable-condition grips that are oil-soaked with some diamond flattening, especially on the right panel. Very good mag. Bright bore, minimal etching, and sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. An attractive 1911 Navy pistol whose condition suggests significant military use. PROVENANCE: the collection of Curtis H. Halvorson. (23-5884/LMA). CURIO. $3,500-5,500.
