EARLY INDIA PATTERN BROWN BESS BY WILSON DATED

1779 WITH EAST INDIA COMPANY CYPHER WITH MATCHING BAYONET. Cal. 75. NSN. Bbl. 38 3/4", stamped w/ crowned London proofs & "RW" at breech end, top engraved "WILSON 1779" w/ East India Company cypher heart surmounted by 4 w/ "V" in top quadrant. Lock w/ rounded plate features bridled frizzen, & feather spring w/ bulbous finial. "WILSON" is engraved in front of serpentine cock & cypher identical to bbl. & w/ date are on tail. Stock extends to w/in 4 1/2" from muzzle w/ brass cap & is of early "hand rail" style & has raised beavertail around bbl. tang. All furniture is of brass & is of early heavy style. Buttplate engraved "11" on top tang. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: triangular bayonet w/ 15 1/2" blade also engraved w/ matching cypher "WILSON" & date on socket. CONDITION: good as lightly restored. Original flintlock. Iron parts cleaned to pewter gray over considerable scattered pitting. All markings remain clear. Stock has good hand worn patina at grip & forend. There are a number of inlet wood repairs along bbl. channel & at bottom of lockplate. Cock retaining screw is replacement. Old steel ramrod does not fit well. Bayonet shows considerable cleaning & shows more pitting w/ engraving barely legible. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19740/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,500-4,500.
