EARLY INDIA PATTERN BROWN BESS MUSKET WITH

ELEPHANT STAMPED TOWER LOCK (FOR CEYLON?). Cal. 77. NSN. Bbl. 40", has British proofs at rear & is also stamped "12". Lock w/ unusually shaped serpentine cock, rounded pan, bridled frizzen & feather spring w/ rounded finial has elephant stamp in front of cock. Tail marked "TOWER". Walnut stock has early styling w/ "hand rail" comb, raised beavertail around bbl. tang & moderate palm swell. Brass mountings are of early India pattern w/ raised & rounded sideplate, short steeple tang to buttplate, flared ramrod pipes & vestigial husk finial to trigger guard. Sm. oval wrist escutcheon is marked "F G" "1785". Stock is pinned to bbl. Repro. ramrod is present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: triangular bayonet w/ 16" blade having maker's mark at rear, socket w/ latch spring marked w/ East India Co. heart over "MOORE - 1786". It comes w/ repro. leather scabbard. CONDITION: bbl. w/ light brown patina & minimal pitting at breech, does not appear to have been converted from percussion. Lock is in original flint configuration. Stock shows good hand worn patina to old surfaces w/ considerable marks & dings, mostly around butt. Stock is sound w/ few noted cracks & losses except along bbl. channel on left side which shows old repair. Lock is operable. Bore pitted. Bayonet has heavy brown patina, markings clear on socket.
