CRYSTAL WINDOW LOCKS. Cal. 12 ga. 2 5/8". S# 146 (CA 1925). The 30 1/2" dovetailed bbls. are engraved "FDA POR JUAN & JOSE SARASQUETA EIBAR" and with gold inlaid Sarasqueta gold oval marked "PALOMA" and with flying dove. Bbl. flats are stamped with post 1923 and pre 1927 Spanish Nitro proofs for 12 ga. Case hardened, square back, backspring sidelock action features automatic safety ("SEGURA" gold inlaid), square crossbolt 3rd fastener, sideclips, vented strikers, W. C. Scott style crystal window cocking indicators, and double triggers. Although most likely made by W. C. Scott, there are no Scott markings or British proofs present. Action and lockplates are engraved with about 70% coverage simple scroll within small scroll and line borders. Action beads are engraved in vine motif. Fences and top of action are fully engraved in scroll. No maker's or retailer's names are present on action or lockplates. Round knob pistol grip buttstock of dark, well marbled European walnut measures 14" over ribbed horn buttplate and features shadowline right hand cheekpiece, point pattern grip checkering, sling loop, and large silver shield on toeline. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .724", L .724". Restriction: R .025" (MOD), L .017" (MOD). Min. Wall Thickness: R .019", L .017". STOCK: DAH: 2 11/16". DAC: 1 13/16". LOP: 14". CAST: slightly on. WEIGHT: 7 lb. 5 oz. CONDITION: fine. Bbls. retaining over 70% what appears to be original blue, thinning overall. Action and lockplates retain about 70-80% original case hardening color. Stocks retain nearly all of an old oil refinish with some subsequent marks. Checkering has been recut. Bores are bright and shiny without noted problems, except for a very small dent at top of left bbl. about 11" from breech end. Action is tight. (22-4504/MGM). CURIO. $3,000-5,500.
