UNUSUAL ROD COCKING ACTION. Cal. 16 Ga., 2 9/16". S# 12100. Bbls. 28" of damascus steel. Lefever Arms Co. produced the first successful American hammerless shotguns in New York from 1885-1916 & have a reputation for mfg. some of the finest shotguns ever made in America. The first Lefevers utilized this cocking system & are only found in the first thousand or so of guns produced, mostly serial numbered under 10,000. Case colored fully compensated sidelock action w/ cocking indicators, early camming top lever split lumps & adj. screws on bottom of action. E Grade engraving features fancy & straight line borders w/ highlights of arabesque scroll. Dbl. triggers. Extractors. Ebony tipped splinter forearm & rnd. knob stock of hand checkered fancy walnut. LOP: 14 1/8" over original checkered hard rubber buttplate. DAC: 1 3/4". DAH: 3 3/16". Near neutral cast. Bore diameter: right - .667, left - .666. Choke constriction: right - .008, left - .019. WEIGHT: 6 lbs., 10.6 oz. CONDITION: bbls. retain 80% lightly faded original browned finish. Action retains 30% dull lightly visible case colors fading to a mottled brown/gray & showing spots of light corrosion. Wood has moderately worn original finish & checkering showing numerous scratches & sm. handling marks. Stock has hairline crack extending from right lockplate. Rear edge of stock & buttplate show sm. chips & cracks along right side. Bores show some very light pitting. (21-2979/DS/MGM). CURIO. $800-1,200.
