Cal. 9x56 MS (.352 groove diameter) S# 1264. The pre 1910 carbines are distinguished by their 17.5" bbls., rnd. knob pistol grip stocks, & deeply sculpted cheekpieces. This example retains original sights on bbl. which is engraved "VON LENGERKE & DETMOLD NEW YORK" on top. Action has model number on receiver & maker's name on left side. Typical action w/ rotary mag. has turned down butterknife bolt & dbl. set triggers. Rnd. knob pistol grip stock of nicely fiddle figured European walnut measures 14 1/8" over ribbed steel buttplate w/ trap. Point pattern checkering is at grip & checkering on forend has typical ovate borders. No. "3360" is stamped on toeline. CONDITION: very fine, original "as found". Metal retaining over 90% original blue w/ some sharp edgewear. Temper blue is still strong on bolt stop. Stock retains over 85% original varnish which is quite dirty & w/ some marks & scratches. Bore is bright & shiny w/ sharp rifling throughout. Action is smooth. Front bail type sling mount a replacement. (22-1893/MGM). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
