A fine example of an original 18th century powder horn measuring 13" in length. Original plain base cap w/ interesting pewter covered spout. Period engraving features a stylized alligator w/ a running Indian. Engraving further includes, “MADE DECMR 1792”, “MALLINCLARD PORTER RICE + 1829 T P TULE 1854”. Other areas of the horn are covered w/ stylized foliate engraving & a hunter shooting what appears to be a turkey. This horn was clearly used over several generations & has a wonderful patina. CONDITION: the horn has a crescent shaped crack approx. 1 1/2" in diameter that appears to have been repaired w/ hide glue likely in the early 19th century. There is some loss of lamination near the butt. (02-15484/BF). $500-800.
