EARLY PRODUCTION STEYR ZEPHYR MANNLICHER TYPE BOLT

ACTION 22 CARBINE. Cal. 22 LR. S# 656. These fine carbines were first offered around 1953 and production ceased around 1967. Only about 3,000 were made. This early example has a 20" tapered round bbl. fitted with Mannlicher Schoenaur type sights. Left side is stamped with 1954 Austrian proofs; right side of bbl. and action with serial number. Well machined five shot magazine bolt action has top of receiver grooved for scope. Top of receiver ring has Steyr logo and bridge is marked "Zephyr". Bolt handle has round knob. Rifle utilized many Mannlicher Schoenauer parts including interchangable trigger plate and this rifle is fitted with single trigger. Capped pistol grip buttstock extends to muzzle with MS steel cap and measures 14" over ribbed plastic buttplate. Stock features MS style shadowline style cheekpiece and point pattern checkering at grip and around forend. A sling loop is fitted to toeline with matching bail at center of forend. MAGS: 1 factory 5 rd. CONDITION: fine as partially refinished. Bbl. and action retaining over 90% of what appears to be original blue over a few marks and rubs. Bolt handle and knob are noticeable silvered. Stock retains most of a heavy oil refinish. Checkering is somewhat gummed. Buttplate is a replacement. Bore is bright and shiny. Action is smooth. There are marks on top dovetail from scope installation. (22-2697/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,750-2,500.
