Cal. 45-70. S# 7970. Bbl. 22". Barleycorn front sight w/ replacement Model 1879 rear sight. High arch breech block. Springfield marked lock w/ 2 piece trigger guard. Short comb band fastened carbine stock w/ trapdoor buttplate has saddle ring & bar on left side. The 1873 Carbines are considered typical of the model Custer's 7th Cavalry carried at the Little Big Horn, they are scarce & highly sought after in any condition. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to a mottled gray brown showing surface corrosion & light pitting. Stock shows heavy wear w/ weathered appearance showing numerous dents & marks. Brakes at wrist have nail type repair. Bore retains partially intact rifling showing scattered pitting. (01-19356/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,500.
