1873 GRADE 3 DOUBLE SHOTGUN WITH LAMINATED STEEL BARRELS. Cal. 10 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 1925. The 30" laminated steel bbls. are engraved "E REMINGTON & SONS ILLION, NY" on concave rib. there are sprays of scroll engraving at breech ends. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ S#. Bottoms of bbls. each w/ "7". Distinctive model 1873 hammer lifter action is fitted w/ bar locks having tall spurred hammers w/ shape unique to this model. Lifter on top tang operates locking system & has top slide stamped w/ patent dates that pushes non rebounding hammers into half cocked position when lifter is raised. Action & locks are case hardened & engraved w/ sprays of nicely cut shaded open scroll within geometric borders. Trigger guard w/ matching scroll on bow is not numbered on tang. Straight grip buttstock of lightly figured American walnut measures 14" over engraved steel buttplate w/ short top spur. Borderless point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter forend w/ sm. inlet horn tip attaches to bbls. w/ flush captive side nail through engraved oval steel escutcheons. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .775", L .785." Restriction: R .021" (MOD), L .033" (FULL). Min. Wall Thickness: R .040", L .032". STOCK: DAH: 2 9/16". DAC: 1 1/2". LOP: 14". CAST: Neutral. WEIGHT: 8 lb. 6 oz. CONDITION: very fine as partially refinished. Bbls. retaining nearly all of a chocolate hued rebrown over some scattered frosting w/ fair definition to interesting pattern. Action retains 40-50% original case hardening color, turning silver to brown on bottom. Locks & hammers retain over 80% of their original color. Stocks have most of their original oil finish w/ a fair number of scattered minor marks & scratches. Checkering w/ fairly light wear. There is a 5/8" stress crack behind left lockplate. Bores are good w/ some scattered light pitting. Action is tight. Locks are good. A very good, attractive example of this important Remington shotgun.
