WITH HEAVY OTTOMAN INFLUENCE. This attractive weapon could be Turkish or could have been made in the area around Hungary or Poland. It shows heavy Ottoman influence & somewhat resembles a shamshir. It likely dates from 1835-1885. Overall length: 39". Blade length: 31". Plain blade w/ 2 long, shallow fullers. Brass hilt w/ faceted jewel & pearl encrusted front crossguard. Jewels are red & aqua in color. Pearls are irregular in form. Rear of crossguard is decorated w/ various foliate motifs. The remainder of the grip & pommel are heavily embellished w/ floral & foliate motifs. The brass scabbard mounts are also decorated w/ floral & foliate motifs & are very heavily decorated w/ the same red & aqua faceted stones surrounded by irregularly shaped pearls. The body of the scabbard is red, velvet covered wood. CONDITION: the blade has a light gray finish. There is 1 pearl missing on the crossguard, otherwise the hilt is undamaged. The scabbard is missing 1 pearl in the lower mount, 1 pearl & 1 aqua gem on the middle mount & 1 pearl & 1 aqua gem on the top mount. The velvet cover has significant wear to the nap & is split in places. The body of the scabbard remains quite solid. (02-15715/BF). $1,000-1,500.
