CANTEEN. 1) GERMAN SWORD. Overall length: 37". Blade length" 31 1/2". Blade appears unmarked but may have a mark obscured by the languet. Brass reverse P guard. Black composite grip w/ brass wire wrap. CONDITION: blade has a blued finish w/ areas of oxidation. Hilt has a dark patina & is stamped on the underside of the guard "C.E. 1/39" w/ an illegible waffenamt below. Grip is undamaged but a strand of wire wrap has become dislodged. No scabbard. 2) BRITISH BAYONET. Overall length: 16 1/2". Blade length: 12". An English MK I Pattern 1888 Lee Metford 2nd Type bayonet. CONDITION: bayonet has a medium gray patina. Both grips have cracks & numerous dings. No spring assembly present. No scabbard. (02-10575(2)/BF). 3) US MILITARIA & EPHEMERA. This group includes a 2nd Award Combat Infantry badge, an unnamed Army Commendation medal, a sterling Marine Corp Marksmanship badge w/ SS-pistol, hand grenade & EX-small bore bars. A sterling Expert Rifleman badge, a sterling globe & anchor collar device, WWII Marine Raider patch, a WWII era Marine pith helmet, a Civil War era 9th plate tintype of a civilian gentleman, a 6th plate tintype of an enlisted soldier w/ ID on the photo "Great Uncle Jim Dealey 1864". 3 Lg. format photographs measuring approx. 8 1/2" x 10 1/2" of "Billie Manfredo"s 6th Avenue Hotel Bar" in Jeanette, PA. Photographer Collins from Manor, PA. Photographs appear to be from the 1920s. A lg. leather bound book measuring 20" x 16 1/2" w/ a metal Great Seal of the United States measuring 9" in diameter that reads "THE PRESIDENTS" affixed to the center of the cover. Title of the book is "The WHITE HOUSE GALLERY of OFFICIAL PORTRAITS of the PRESIDENTS". Book appears to be presented by The Washington Post on October 5, 1907 & is copy #4144. CONDITION: items in this group generally show light wear. Civil War image cases show moderate wear. Book shows significant wear w/ losses, scuffs & repairs to the leather binding. (02-10582/BF). 4) CANTEEN. A mid 19th Century canteen possibly used in the Civil War. Construction appears to be oak w/ 2 metal bands on the sides. There are iron loops on each side of the spout that hold a white buff leather sling. Carved wooden spout is lined w/ pewter. There are 2 legs at the base to allow the canteen to stand. 1 Side of the canteen has a carved inscription that reads "JRM N(star)C 5th Regt". The other side appears to have a burned in mark that reads "JF" within a heart. Inscription may not be contemporary to the canteen. CONDITION: wood & metal bands show honest wear. Carved areas show dirt & wear in the carving. Buff leather strap is heavily worn & discolored but complete. (02-10593/BF). $500-800.
