ENFIELD SNIDER RIFLE.

Cal. 577 Snider. NSN. Bbl. 36 1/2". Rifle appears similar to a MK1 Snider & is a conversion from an earlier 1853 Enfield. Lockplate is marked w/ British crown, "V + R", 1852 &Enfield. There do not appear to be any other British markings other than the lockplate & this rifle may well be a Nepalese made piece. Breechblock is unmarked. Buttplate, rear band & lower tang have Nepalese markings. Ladder rear sight w/ Nepalese graduations. Blade front sight. Ramrod present. Bottom mounted sling swivels w/ reproduction sling. Hardwood stock set. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brass muzzle cork & Nepalese socket bayonet. Bayonet has no British markings and has a cleaned appearance w/ scattered light pitting & oxidation. No scabbard is present. CONDITION: refinished stock shows scattered handling wear & light dings. Cleaned brass triggerguard and buttplate show some dings & light oxidation. Hammer is a silvery gray patina & lockplate retains a strong amount of arsenal blue finish w/ scattered dings. Bbl., bands, & breechblock are turning brown w/ touch up blue, a few spots of light pitting & dings. Very good bore w/ some light pitting. (01-21072/MJC). ANTIQUE. $300-500.
